No Roads To Health

The first thing we figured out that was needed to be done was the voiceover, so I engineered the VO recording while Daron was the VO Artist. I then did a quick comp and edit for the same. We then started doing the Dialogue Edit. A major part of it was gain staging. We had to do a lot of clip gain staging to make sure nothing was hitting the preset compressors too hard.

Then we started making sense out of the dialogues and the atmos tracks. Daron and I booked back to back sessions in the Lecture Theater to continue the edit and mix while Elton used this time to compose the music for the documentary. Despite of the sync being a pain to edit, this was a fun project to do. I actually enjoyed the whole process.

Once the music was done, it was mixing time. We made sure everything sounded clean and good as well as in place. We tried to enhance the emotions mainly with the transitions and fader movements.

We kept everything except for the VO in the phantom center. The VO came out of the center channel. We sent the music to a reverb bus and panned it in the rear speakers. We sent the music and some of the sound design/atmos elements to the LFE.

I think our final product sounds decent and is technically up to the mark.

In this documentary, the narrative was like a journey, and we were able to enhance it using the transitions and the music.
